We know that the movie is an homage to Spielberg’s 1970’s/1980’s Amblin films, like Close Encounters of a Third Kind and E.T. Could it be that the teaser trailer for Super 8 was inspired by Spielberg’s first experience at a movie theater?

/Film reader Jack F. from Dallas pointed me to an interview with Spielberg from a couple years ago. Fast forward to the 6:45 mark:

Sound familiar? Cecil B. DeMille’s The Greatest Show on Earth was Spielberg’s first experience at a movie theater, but the climactic train wreck at the end of the movie almost sounds like the exact description of the teaser trailer for Super 8. Is it just a coincidence?
