Batman Year One Animated Trailer

‘Batman: Year One’ Animated Trailer By Russ Fischer/July 7, 2011 12:30 pm EST After Frank Miller wrote the end of Batman’s story in The Dark Knight Returns, he and the brilliant comic artist David Mazzucchelli took to the pages of Batman’s regular comic series to remap the character’s origin in Year One. Those issues (Batman #404-407 in 1987) became one of the landmark Batman stories. For almost twenty-five years Year One has had a lasting effect on major Batman storylines, even instigating the scuttled Darren Aronofsky Batman film a decade ago, and eventually providing a good deal of inspiration to Christopher Nolan’s subsequent film Batman Begins....

The Muppets What Did You Think

‘The Muppets’ – What Did You Think? By Russ Fischer/Nov. 23, 2011 6:00 pm EST After a long promotional runup that included a never-ending string of parody trailers, photo shoots and gleeful audio experiments, The Muppets is finally in theaters. Jason Segel’s loving ode to Jim Henson’s puppet troupe combines some winking modern showmanship with a whole lot of love for the Muppets and what they have always represented in pop culture....

Adria Petty Making Suffocate A Horror Film About Hoarders

Adria Petty Making ‘Suffocate,’ A Horror Film About Hoarders By Russ Fischer/March 10, 2011 9:00 am EST Briefly: I had never seen even a snippet of the show Hoarders until recently, and I rather wish I still hadn’t. While I understand the horrific appeal I can’t quite get into being entertained/horrified by people who are obsessively driven to surround themselves with stuff. Unless, of course, they’re the subject of a horror film rather than a pseudo-documentary TV show....

Complete Grindhouse Dvd Blu Ray Coming Soon

Complete Grindhouse DVD/Blu-Ray Coming Soon? By Peter Sciretta/July 5, 2010 10:29 am EST As you probably know, when Grindhouse was released in theaters, it was a double feature featuring Robert Rodriguez’s Planet Terror, Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof, and a few faux trailers at the beginning and in between. When the films were released on DVD, they were distributed as separate movies, with the trailers omitted from both releases (with the exception of Machete)....

High School Movie Trailer

HIGH School Movie Trailer By Peter Sciretta/April 19, 2010 11:17 pm EST One of our most anticipated films of the 2010 Sundance Film Festival was the stoner comedy High School. I attended a midnight screening of the film, and the crowd was hysterical with laughter. That said, I thought the premise was much more clever than the actual film. What’s the premise? Here is the official description from Sundance: “Michael Chiklis plays a smarmy high school principal who suddenly institutes a zero-tolerance crusade, introducing mandatory drug tests for all students....

New International ‘X-Men: First Class’ Trailers Very Briefly Show Sebastian Shaw In Action By Russ Fischer/April 23, 2011 12:32 pm EST The past 36 hours have been part of what was probably the slowest news cycle of the year, so why not throw out two more short trailers for X-Men: First Class? THR is reporting that Peter Jackson is negotiating a deal to direct the two halves of The Hobbit himself. He’s talking to Warner Bros., MGM and New Line right now, and Deadline says that he’s been busy extracting himself from other obligations. What does that do to Tintin? Scarlett Johansson To Direct Summer Crossing

Scarlett Johansson To Direct ‘Summer Crossing’ By Russ Fischer/Nov. 18, 2011 10:00 am EST Scarlett Johansson veered into directing in 2009 with These Vagabond Shoes, a short black and white film that starred Kevin Bacon as a man in search of a hot dog. The short was intended, by Johansson, to be part of the New York, I Love You omnibus film, but ended up being cut. (Producers said the short was cut because it was in black and white, while the rest of the film was in color, and didn’t feature an “interpersonal relationship” as did the other tales....

VOTD: Old School Film And Video Company Logos From The ’70s And ’80s By Germain Lussier/Feb. 11, 2011 7:00 am EST When you popped a VHS into your VCR in previous decades, chances are you saw a colorful, animated logo before the feature. Straw Dogs Trailer A Tornado Of Lust Rage And Cowardice

‘Straw Dogs’ Trailer: A Tornado Of Lust, Rage And Cowardice By Russ Fischer/May 13, 2011 12:41 pm EST I’m going to have to hold my thoughts on this footage for Rod Lurie’s remake of the landmark Sam Peckinpah film Straw Dogs, because after watching the trailer a couple times I’m still second-guessing what the intentions are. What I can see is that this trailer is selling a very straight-up thriller, in which James Marsden and Kate Bosworth (both looking better than I expected — this might be a career high for Kate Bosworth, not that such a thing means much) have to deal with the advances of a bunch of tough rednecks when they move back to her hometown in Louisiana....
