The basic cast of Piranha 3DD was announced earlier this week, but aside from the laughter inspired by the film’s title, which is so silly it defies all ridicule, the general response was a shrug. Without some of the better actors from the first film (Richard Dreyfuss, Ving Rhames, Elisabeth Shue, Christopher Lloyd, Adam Scott and even Jerry O’Connell — in other words, the entire top-billed cast) this sequel seems like little more than the reflex action of the sequel-happy Dimension Films....

After a long, protracted death spiral, Blockbuster Inc. is planning on filing for bankruptcy in mid-September. This isn’t the end of Blockbuster quite yet, as the company hopes the bankruptcy process will only last for five months, but things aren’t looking good. The director had already got Mia Waskiowska to play a key role. Now he’s got Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman in talks as well. The LA Times says that Mr. Firth is negotiating the role in Stoker, which would likely shoot before Gambit, the remake of a ’60s romantic heist film scripted by the Coen Brothers and also set to star Cameron Diaz....
