Warner Bros. Mulling The Notion Of A Prequel To ‘The Shining’ By Russ Fischer/July 30, 2012 7:00 am EST At this point there’s nothing that anyone can do to The Shining on screen that Stephen King hasn’t already done himself. (See the TV series adaptation of his novel, scripted by King, which leaves out few of the novel’s details, and misses most of Stanley Kubrick’s chilling effect.) So the idea of a prequel is just one of those shrugs, an idea that seems terrible at first, but which experience suggests will very likely be forgotten a few minutes after it is released....

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, a playwright who was recently brought onto the troubled Broadway production Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, will pen the new script based on King’s first published work. It was previously turned into a classic 1976 film by Brian De Palma that starred Sissy Spacek as a shy and bullied teenager who develops psychic powers and uses them to get revenge on her tormenters....

/Film Video Interview: Rian Johnson Talks ‘Looper’ By Germain Lussier/March 19, 2012 9:30 am EST Rian Johnson’s never done this before. This, meaning, promote a movie he really can’t talk about with a huge, huge studio backing it. The movie in question is Looper and, from the looks of it, Johnson has finally stepped into the big leagues after two fantastic smaller films. Looper, which will be released September 28, stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a present day assassin for the mob of the future....

‘Magic Mike’ Review - Serious Drama, Unserious Thrills By Angie Han/June 29, 2012 12:00 pm EST Unfortunately for them, it turns out that Magic Mike is not that movie. Or rather, it is, but only intermittently. The rest of the time, Magic Mike is a Steven Soderbergh drama that just so happens to be set in the world of male stripping. That mostly turns out to be a good thing, although I suspect the guys and gals who come looking for a “male Showgirls,” as one of my pals put it, won’t necessarily agree....

‘Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol’ Blu-Ray Doesn’t Include Expanded IMAX Ratio Footage By Peter Sciretta/March 9, 2012 5:30 pm EST We may receive a commission on purchases made from links. For those of you who didn’t know, the IMAX release of this film (and other films like the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises) included footage shot with on 70 mm IMAX film, 15 perforations per frame. The quality of those sequences, almost a half hour of the total film, is amazingly vivid....

‘The Bourne Legacy’ International Trailer By Russ Fischer/April 19, 2012 1:00 pm EST Here’s the Japanese teaser trailer for The Bourne Legacy, in which previous Bourne series writer Tony Gilroy directs Jeremy Renner in a film that expands the fictional world of the Bourne films. Renner isn’t the successor to Matt Damon exactly; rather, he’s a parallel character in the same world. Edward Norton and Rachel Weisz are featured in addition to Renner....
