Can’t say that this clip does too much for me, but that’s one of the possible problems with clips, even more than with trailers — out of context, it’s really hard to say if this works for the film as a whole. Perhaps there are things we don’t know about these characters that would make this clip play better within the film.
But I’m still quite curious about Passion Play, if only for the fact that it eventually sees Rourke’s character in opposition to a crazy gangster played by Bill Murray. (A role originally held by Toby Kebbel, and as much as I love Kebbel — a lot — I’m even more happy to see Murray play it.)
Here’s the rundown:
When a jazz trumpeter is taken to the desert and a gun held to his head, we are at the beginning of a delightful fable about romance and dreams. When he meets a beautiful woman who works as the Bird Woman in a circus, he falls madly in love and persuades her to run away with him only to find that life is a little more complicated than simply living one’s fantasies.
